Caryn Johnson (born November 13, 1955), better known by her stage name Whoopi Goldberg, is an American comedian, actor, singer-songwriter, political activist, author and talk show host best known for her roles as Celie Harris Johnson in the 1985 period drama film The Color Purple, Oda Mae Brown in the 1990 romantic fantasy film Ghost, Deloris Van Cartier/Sister Mary Clarence in the 1992 comedy film Sister Act and for being a moderator and a co-host on the ABC talk show The View since 2007.
On Saturday Night Live, she has been impersonated by Chris Rock on April 20, 1991 during the "Musicians For Free-Range Chickens" sketch, by Ellen Cleghorne four times from January 16, 1993 to September 24, 1994, by Tim Meadows on September 26, 1998 during "The New Hollywood Squares" sketch and by Kenan Thompson nine times from November 1, 2008 to March 12, 2011, which most of them were during "The View" sketch. Goldberg herself also made a cameo on November 22, 1986 during the "Translator" miscellaneous sketch and on February 9, 2013 during the opening monologue and introduced Justin Bieber's first performance.
