Thomas Earl "Tom" Petty (October 20, 1950 – October 2, 2017) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He was the frontman of "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers" and was a founding member of the late 1980s supergroup the Traveling Wilburys and Mudcrutch.
Petty and his band have perfomed on Saturday Night Live eight times and he has been impersonated many times by David Spade.
On October 2, 2017, Petty died at UCLA Medical Center after going into cardiac arrest the night before.
