The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, previously billed as simply The Dirt Band, are an American country-rock band.
They were collaborators with Steve Martin. Martin joined them when both were on the January 21, 1978 episode of SNL. Also, as "The Toot Uncommons," they were the backing band on the studio recording of King Tut.
