Edward "Ted" Kennedy (February 22, 1932 - August 25, 2009) was a United States Senator from Massachusetts and a member of the Democratic Party. He was the second most senior member of the Senate until his death in 2009 and was the fourth-longest-serving senator in United States history, having served there for almost 47 years.
Although he had never been on Saturday Night Live, he has been impersonated by Bill Murray four times from November 3, 1979 to May 24, 1980, by Gary Kroeger on December 4, 1982 during the Saturday Night News segment, by Terry Sweeney on November 9, 1985 during the "National Inquirer Theatre" sketch, by Phil Hartman six times from May 9, 1987 to November 23, 1996 and by Will Ferrell on January 18, 1997 during the "Genitalia Line-Up" sketch and on May 17, 1997 during the "Kennedy Kapers" sketch.
