The season premiere of Season 16 and the 287th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on September 29, 1990, hosted by actor Kyle MacLachlan with musical guest Sinéad O'Connor, an Irish singer-songwriter. This was Kyle MacLachlan's hosting debut, and the first out of the two musical guest stints for Sinéad O'Connor.
