Michael Phelps hosted the season premiere of Season 34 and the 637th episode of Saturday Night Live, which premiered on September 13, 2008. The musical guest was rapper, singer and songwriter Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne made his 2nd appearance and this was also his first time as the musical guest, as well as the only time as host on SNL for Michael Phelps. This marked the earliest season premiere in the show's history.
This marked the first episode for Bobby Moynihan as a cast member.
