The thirty-fourth season of Saturday Night Live began on September 13, 2008 and ended on May 16, 2009. On January 4, 2009, a SNL Sports Extra '09 episode aired as a compilation of sports sketches from the history of SNL in honor of the upcoming Superbowl. This was the final season for Amy Poehler (who ended up leaving the show mid-season in December), Casey Wilson, and longtome cast member Darrell Hammond (who left the show at the end of the season after a then-record breaking 14 yeats on the show); Poehler missed the October 25th-November 22nd episodes due to maternity leave. It was also the first season for Abby Elliott and Bobby Moynihan, and the only season for Michaela Watkins. Aubrey Plaza and John Roberts (most-known for the Fox series Bob's Burgers) auditioned but were passed over.[1][2]
