Season 25 of Saturday Night Live premiered on October 2, 1999 with host Jerry Seinfeld and musical guest David Bowie and ended on May 20, 2000 with host Jackie Chan and musical guest Kid Rock.

There were no changes to the cast prior to the start of this season, as the entire cast from the previous season returned. Jimmy Fallon, Horatio Sanz, and Chris Parnell were all promoted to repertory status. The show then added two new featured players as this season progressed: Rachel Dratch, a performer with The Second City in Chicago,[2] and Maya Rudolph of The Groundlings. They started in different points of the season. Dratch first started on October 23, 1999, hosted by longtime former cast member Norm Macdonald and Rudolph first started on May 6, 2000, hosted by John Goodman.

This would be the final season for longtime cast members Tim Meadows, Cheri Oteri, and Colin Quinn. Meadows had been on the show for 10 seasons since 1991 (a record at the time); held the record as the longest-tenured cast member, surpassed from Kevin Nealon (who stayed on for 9 seasons); while Oteri and Quinn (had both been on the show for five seasons since 1995) left the show on their own terms.
