James Richard "Rick" Perry (born March 4, 1950) is an American politician and a Republican member who was the 47th Governor of Texas and 14th Secretary of Energy. He was the longest serving Governor in Texas's history, taking office after Governor George W. Bush resigned to become President of the United States in 2001, and leaving office in 2015 after he decided to retire and after his successor, current governor Greg Abbott, was elected. Although he has never been on Saturday Night Live, he has been impersonated by Alec Baldwin on September 24, 2011 during the "Either The 7th Or 8th GOP Debate" cold opening sketch and currently by Bill Hader (for dates, see infobox).
During the 2012 election, Perry tried to name three departments he could do without, naming the Departments of Commerce and Education, but blanking on the third one before remembering it was the Department of Energy later on. Ironically, he later became the Secretary of Energy under Donald Trump.
