The 2nd episode of Season 42 and the 810th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on October 8, 2016. It was hosted by the songwriter, director, actor, playwright and filmmaker Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of the Broadway musicals In the Heights and Hamilton, with musical guest Twenty One Pilots. This was the hosting debut for Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as the musical guest debut on SNL for Twenty One Pilots.
