The second episode of Season 21 and the 388th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on October 7, 1995, hosted by original (and former) cast member Chevy Chase, star of Caddyshack and the sequel 1988 film Caddyshack II, five of the National Lampoon's Vacation films, Foul Play, Seems Like Old Times, Under the Rainbow, Modern Problems, Deal of the Century, Three Amigos!, Disney's comedy film Man of the House, Spies Like Us, Fletch and the sequel Fletch Lives, Funny Money, Zoom, Nothing but Trouble, Cops and Robbersons, The Last Laugh, Memoirs of an Invisible Man, Funny Farm, Dirty Work, Snow Day, and The Magic Roundabout with musical guest Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories. This is the 7th hosting stint for Chevy Chase and Lisa Loeb made her musical guest debut on SNL.

- Chevy mentions that tonight is only a few days away from the 20th anniversary of SNL’s very first episode.
- Six years earlier, at SNL's 15th Anniversary Special, Chevy Chase had to beg Lorne Michaels to let him open the special with a fall, and was forced to sign various waivers starting he wouldn't sue the network if he hurt himself because of his age.
