The season premiere of Season 4 and the 67th episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by the legendary English rock band The Rolling Stones, who were also the musical guests. Then-Mayor of New York City Ed Koch appeared during the opening monologue, in which he congratulated John Belushi on the recent success of his film Animal House. It premiered on October 7, 1978.
This is the only hosting and musical guest appearance for The Rolling Stones, as well as Mick Jagger's musical guest (and SNL) debut.
