Saturday Night Live premiered its 642nd episode and the 6th episode of Season 34 on October 25, 2008. The host was Mad Men star Jon Hamm, and the musical guest was the English pop rock band Coldplay. Cameos did include Maya Rudolph, John Slattery, and Elizabeth Moss. This is the hosting debut on SNL for Jon Hamm, while Coldplay made their 3rd musical guest stint.

This episode was also different because Coldplay did three songs instead of the traditional two.

This was the first episode in which Seth Meyers did Weekend Update by himself, as Amy Poehler was in maternity leave for the next several months.

Weekend Update with Seth Meyers & Amy Poehler For the first time ever, Seth Meyers anchors Weekend Update by himself, as Amy Poehler had her baby; Robo-Call (Will Forte) is ashamed he’s being used to impugn Obama’s character; Ralph Nader (Bill Hader) wrongly expects to supply unneeded campaign excitement; yet again, Nicholas Fehn (Fred Armisen) doesn’t manage to gain any rhetorical ground; Kenan Thompson and Maya Rudolph sing “We Love You Amy” in support of absent new mother Amy Poehler.
