The season premiere of Season 30 and the 566th episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by actor Ben Affleck with rapper Nelly as the musical guest. It premiered on October 2, 2004. This is Ben Affleck's 3rd hosting stint and Nelly's 2nd musical guest appearance on SNL.

This marked the first episode for Rob Riggle as a cast member.

This is also Amy Poehler's first episode as a Weekend Update co-anchor.

Ben Affleck's Monologue   Alec Baldwin accuses actor Ben Affleck of stealing his moves, as he returned to host SNL for the third time.

Debbie Downer: Birthday Party   Melodramatic Debbie Downer (Rachel Dratch) tales of woe ruins the festivities at a friend's (Ben Affleck) birthday party. Also features Fred Armisen as guest, Amy Poehler as Michelle, Maya Rudolph as Theresa and Horatio Sanz as Uncle Frank.
Swift Boat Veterans For Truth   Members of John Kerry's former military crew (Fred Armisen, Will Forte, Darrell Hammond, Chris Parnell and Horatio Sanz) speak of his poor domestic history.
Florida Stop   James Carville (Ben Affleck) and Bill Clinton (Darrell Hammond) try in vain to get John and Teresa Kerry (Seth Meyers, Maya Rudolph) to act more human.

Weekend Update with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Featuring guests James Gandolfini comments on his state's gay governor, Hollywood celebrity Ben Affleck comments about Matt Damon's recent criticisms and Elton John (Horatio Sanz) is filled with hate. Amy Poehler became Tina Fey's co-anchor on Weekend Update.
The Escalator   The old joke is acted out in the style of a disaster flick when an escalator loses power and panic breaks loose. With Ben Affleck, Rachel Dratch, Horatio Sanz as the shoppers, Will Forte and Rob Riggle as rescue workers, Amy Poehler as Gail and Maya Rudolph as Maria.
Wedding DJ   An obnoxious disc jockey (Ben Affleck) disrupts a wedding reception. Also features Fred Armisen as Father Matachuck, Rob Riggle and Amy Poehler as Joel and Ashley Baird, Will Fote as Brian Baird and Rachel Dratch as guest.

The Family   Allison Jackson's film is a voyeuristic look at the Bush Family partying at Camp David.

  • This was Andrew Steele (now Harper)'s first episode as a co-head writer, alongside Tina Fey.
