The 466th episode and the season premiere of Season 25 of Saturday Night Live, hosted by actor and stand-up comedian Jerry Seinfeld with musical guest David Bowie. This is Jerry Seinfeld's 2nd hosting stint and his first appearance in 7 years, 5 months, and 14 days, and David Bowie’s 4th and final musical guest stint on SNL. It premiered on October 2, 1999.
Seinfeld previously hosted SNL on April 18, 1992, the eighteenth episode of Season 17, with musical guest Annie Lennox.
David Bowie previously performed on SNL on the following dates: On December 15, 1979, the seventh episode of Season 5, hosted by actor Martin Sheen, November 23, 1991, the seventh episode of SNL's 17th Season, hosted by former child actor Macaulay Culkin, with Tin Machine, as they made their only musical guest appearance, and February 8, 1997, the twelfth episode of SNL's 22nd Season, hosted by Canadian actress Neve Campbell, star of the FOX's classic hit drama series Party of Five.

- This was future cast member Tina Fey's first episode as head writer, replacing Adam McKay.
- However, McKay (who had been writing for the show since 1995) returned for his fifth season, as a regular writer.
- Additionally, starting with this episode, Mary Ellen Matthews (previously an assistant photographer since 1993), is officially named the head photographer of the show (a role she's been in, ever since).
