The 748th episode and 3rd episode of Saturday Night Live's 39th season premiered on October 12, 2013, hosted by German-born American actor Bruce Willis, with musical guest Katy Perry, a pop singer-songwriter, who performed "Roar" and "Walking on Air." This is Bruce Willis' 2nd and last hosting stint and his only appearance in 24 years and 12 days, and Katy Perry's 2nd musical guest appearance on SNL.
Willis last hosted SNL was on September 30, 1989, the season premiere of SNL's 15th season, with musical guest Neil Young and Katy Perry previously made her musical guest debut on September 25, 2010, the premiere of SNL's 36th season, with longtime former cast member and Weekend Update co-anchor Amy Poehler as the host; which coincidentally, was the first episode for current cast members Vanessa Bayer, Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah.
Bruce Willis' goodnights speech is "Thank You to Katy Perry! Katy Perry: Oh, Thank you!. Thank you to Lorne Michaels! And to the cast and crew! I had an incredible week, Thank you so much, Be Careful going home. Katy Perry: (laughing) Or walking home! Or walking home! Have a great week!". (Cheers and applause)
