The 891st episode and 2nd episode of Saturday Night Live's 46th season premiered on October 10, 2020, hosted by stand-up comedian, actor, filmmaker, and podcaster Bill Burr, created, co-wrote, and voiced the lead character Frank Murphy in the Netflix's hit adult animated sitcom F Is for Family, star of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian and the hit films The King of Staten Island, Old Dads, and the 2023 animated musical comedy film Leo with musical guest Jack White, a musician, singer and songwriter. Country singer Morgan Wallen was originally scheduled to perform as the musical guest but he was dropped when videos of him surfaced showing him partying without taking COVID-19 precautions, such as social distancing or wearing a mask. On October 9th, 2020, a day before the show, it was announced that Jack White would replace Wallen as the musical guest. (Wallen was rescheduled for the December 5, 2020 episode, the seventh episode, hosted by actor Jason Bateman, star of Netflix's crime drama series Ozark). This was Bill Burr's hosting debut on SNL. Jack White made his 4th musical guest stint, as well as his 3rd solo musical guest appearance on SNL.
The last time Jack White was the musical guest was on April 14, 2018, the eighteenth episode of SNL's 43rd season, hosted by former frequent SNL writer, stand-up comedian, actor and producer John Mulaney.
