The 895th episode and 6th episode of Season 46, as well as the twelfth post-U.S. Presidential Election episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by stand-up comedian and actor Dave Chappelle, star of the hit film, Half-Baked, and the hit sketch comedy series Chappelle's Show, with the legendary rock band Foo Fighters as the musical guests, who performed "Shame Shame" and "Times Like These". It premiered on November 7, 2020. This is the sixth consecutive show of the season, and it was the weekend following the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election. Chappelle previously hosted SNL for the eleventh post-election episode on the November 12, 2016 episode, on the sixth episode of SNL's 42nd season, with musical guests A Tribe Called Quest, a hip-hop group. This is the twelfth post-election episode in the show's history, as well as Dave Chappelle's 2nd hosting stint.

The last time the Foo Fighters were the musical guests was on December 16, 2017, the ninth episode and the Christmas show of SNL's 43rd season, hosted by stand-up comedian and actor Kevin Hart. This is also the 8th musical guest appearance for the Foo Fighters on SNL, as well as Dave Grohl’s record 14th time as the musical guest, making him only one musical guest stint away from Paul Simon, a legendary folk-rock singer and guitarist.

This marked the final episode in which Jim Carrey played Joe Biden, as Carrey said that his contract to play Biden only lasted six weeks, up through the election. He was eventually replaced by then-current cast member Alex Moffat on December 19, 2020, the ninth episode and the Christmas show, hosted by longtime former cast member Kristen Wiig, with musical guest Dua Lipa.

This is also marked the final episode for Alec Baldwin in which he played of Donald Trump.

The role was then taken over by current cast member James Austin Johnson, nearly one year later on the November 6, 2021 episode, the fifth episode of Saturday Night Live's 47th season, hosted by actor and Succession star Kieran Culkin, with musical guest Ed Sheeran, an English singer-songwriter.

Dave Chappelle's goodnights speech is "Thanks to Foo Fighters, Jim Carrey, Maya Rudolph, Alec Baldwin (Cheers and applause), Chappelle's Show Is Streaming On Netflix Right Now, God Bless America". (Cheers and applause again)
