The 854th episode and 4th episode of Season 44 of Saturday Night Live premiered on November 3, 2018, hosted by actor and comedian Jonah Hill, star of the seventeenth of his hit films Superbad, Knocked Up, Get Him to the Geek, Cyrus, The Sitter, The Watch, 21 Jump Street and the sequel 22 Jump Street, This is the End, Moneyball, Hail Caesar!, War Dogs, Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot, True Story, The Wolf of Wall Street, Don't Look Up, You People and Outcome, and the seven hit animated films Horton Hears a Who!, Megamind, the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, Sausage Party, The Lego Movie, and the sequel The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, and The Lego Batman Movie, he also directed, written and produced in the 2018 coming-of-age comedy-drama film Mid90s, and he co-starred in the Netflix's psychological black comedy-drama miniseries Maniac with Emma Stone, with musical guest Maggie Rogers. Hill reached his fifth time hosting SNL and becomes the newest member of the Five-Timers Club, with this appearance, which was referenced in his opening monologue.

This is Jonah Hill's 5th time hosting SNL, thus making him a five-time host to enter The Five-Timers Club. This is also the musical guest debut for Maggie Rogers on SNL.

Hill previously hosted SNL 4 times on: March 15, 2008, the eighth episode of SNL's 33rd season, with musical guest Mariah Carey, March 10, 2012, the seventeenth episode of SNL's 37th season, with the musical guests being The Shins, an indie rock band, January 25, 2014, the twelfth episode of SNL's Season 39, with musical guests Bastille, an English pop rock band, and March 5, 2016, the fourteenth episode of SNL's 41st season, with musical guest Future, a rapper.
