The 6th episode of Season 41 and the 793rd episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on November 21, 2015, hosted by actor Matthew McConaughey, star of the hit films Contact, Amistad, U-571, The Wedding Planner, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Failure to Launch, Fool's Gold, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, The Lincoln Lawyer, Magic Mike, Mud, Interstellar, and The Gentlemen and the animated films Kubo and the Two Strings, Sing and its sequel Sing 2, with musical guest Adele. This is Matthew McConaughey's 2nd hosting stint and his first appearance in 12 years, 9 months, and 13 days, as well as the 2nd musical guest appearance that Adele made on SNL.

McConaughey last hosted SNL back on the February 8, 2003 episode, the eleventh episode of SNL's 28th season, with musical guests The Dixie Chicks, a country band.

Adele previously made her musical guest debut on October 18, 2008, the fifth episode of SNL's 34th Season, hosted by actor Josh Brolin.
