The 973rd episode and 5th episode of Saturday Night Live's 50th season premiered on November 2, 2024, hosted by former SNL writer, writing supervisor and producer, stand-up comedian and actor John Mulaney, star of the new Broadway play, “All In: Comedy About Love” opening Dec. 11, his stand-up specials include The Top Part, New in Town, The Comeback Kid, Kid Gorgeous, and Baby J, the children's musical comedy special, John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch, and voiced of Andrew Glouberman in the Netflix's hit adult animated coming-of-age sitcom Big Mouth, and the animated films Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and the sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Disney's Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers and DreamWorks Animation's film Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, with musical guest Chappell Roan, a singer-songwriter.
This is John Mulaney's 6th time hosting on SNL, making him the most frequent former SNL writer who was never hired as a cast member to host more than five. This is also the musical guest debut on SNL for Chappell Roan.
John Mulaney previously hosted SNL on the following dates: On April 14, 2018, the eighteenth episode of SNL's 43rd season, with musical guest Jack White, on March 2, 2019, the fourteenth episode of SNL's 44th season, with musical guest Thomas Rhett, a country singer-songwriter, on February 29, 2020, the fourteenth episode of SNL's 45th season and the first time SNL has aired on Leap Day, with musical guest David Byrne, on October 31, 2020, the fifth episode and Halloween show of SNL's 46th season, with the legendary rock band The Strokes as his musical guests and on February 26, 2022, the thirteenth episode of SNL's 47th season, with musical guests LCD Soundsystem, an electronic rock band (which he returned to hosted SNL for the fifth time and he entered to become the then-newest member of the Five-Timers Club).
