The 7th episode of Season 37 and the 709th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on November 19, 2011. It was hosted by actor and comedian Jason Segel, star of the CBS hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother and the hit films Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I Love You, Man, Despicable Me, Bad Teacher and The Muppets and the musical guest was Florence and the Machine, who performed "Shake It Out" and "No Light, No Light". Jason Segel made his only hosting stint, and this is also Florence and the Machine's 2nd musical guest appearance on SNL.

Jason Segel's goodnights speech is "Ladies and gentlemen, thanks to Florence + The Machine! [ he hugs Florence ] To The Muppets — to The Muppets! To Paul Rudd! To Governor Jon Huntsman! [ he hugs Huntsman ] And to my family, who couldn’t be here tonight! This is for you. I love you guys! Good night!"
