Nancy Pelosi was originally impersonated on SNL by Kristen Wiig. In the past, she has been impersonated by guest star Cameron Diaz (April 9, 2005, and by Amy Poehler (November 12, 2005). Wiig usually has Nancy Pelosi being cutting, snarky and rude to people, and sometimes secretly having a wild side. The impression was then done by Kate McKinnon six times (one in 2017, and the rest in 2019). After Kate left the show in 2022, the impression was then picked up by Chloe Fineman, starting with the October 15, 2022 episode.
Biography[]
The daughter of former Baltimore mayor Thomas D'Alesandro Jr., Nancy Pelosi has been representing San Francisco, California in Congress since 1987. Nancy Pelosi served as the Democratic leader in Congress from 2003 to 2023. She twice served as Speaker of the House, the first Female to do so, from 2007 to 2011 and from 2019 to 2023. She was Speaker during the Iraq War and both impeachments of Donald Trump.
In 2022, by which time Pelosi was 82 years old and tired, she announced that she would retire from being the leader of the Democrats; that same year, her husband Paul was attacked by an insane far-right conspiracy theorist, leaving him with a fractured skull. The Republican Party took control of the House that year and she was succeeded by Hakeem Jeffries as Democratic leader on January 3, 2023. However, due to the Freedom Caucus revolting against Republican leader Kevin McCarthy, there was no new Speaker of the House between January 3 and January 7, when McCarthy was elected after failing to secure enough votes until the 15th ballot.
The rest of 2023 saw the Republican-led House of Representatives fall into disarray, due to their conflicting opinions of Joe Biden's presidency, with some Representatives comparing themselves to Donald Trump. After McCarthy's ouster in October 2023 due to a far-right revolt within the House, the acting Speaker of the House, Patrick McHenry, decided to evict Pelosi from her Washington hideout office.
