The 602nd episode and 17th episode of Saturday Night Live's 31st season which premiered on May 6, 2006. It was hosted by actor Tom Hanks and the musical guest was Red Hot Chili Peppers, the legendary rock band, who performed "Dani California" and "Give It Away". This is Tom Hanks' 8th time as host and the second musical guest appearance on SNL for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Hanks last hosted SNL was on September 28, 1996, the Season 22 premiere, with musical guest Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers previously made their musical guest debut on February 22, 1992, the fourteenth episode of Season 17, hosted by actress and comedian Roseanne Barr, star of ABC's classic hit sitcom Roseanne and her then-husband, comedian and actor Tom Arnold.
