The 808th episode, 21st episode and the Season 41 Finale of Saturday Night Live premiered on May 21, 2016, hosted by longtime former cast member Fred Armisen star of IFC's sketch comedy series Portlandia, with Australian singer Courtney Barnett as the musical guest, who performs "Nobody Really Cares If You Don't Go to the Party" and "Pedestrian at Best". This was Fred Armisen’s first-time hosting and Courtney Barnett's musical guest debut was made on SNL.
This marked the final episode for longtime cast members: Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah (both had been cast members since 2010), as they were both fired from the show after six years. This would be also the last episode for first year featured player Jon Rudnitsky, as he would let go after only one season.

Trivia[]
- This is Rob Klein's final episode as head writer (a role he first got back in 2013), after three years.
- Klein (who had written for the show since 2007) remained on the writing staff the next season.
- This was Mikey Day's final episode credited as a writer, as after three seasons in the writing staff, he joined the cast, the very next season.
- Speaking of writers, this was also Tim Robinson's final episode as a writer, as Robinson (who, like Day, previously joined the writing staff in 2013) left the show, after three years in the writing staff, and overall, four years at the show (he was previously a cast member during the 2012-13 season before being demoted to the writing staff).
- Lastly, this is also even marked the final episode for longtime writer Zach Kanin (who had written for the show since 2011), as he decided to leave the show after five years.
Notes/Trivia[]
- Fred Armisen is the fourth longtime former cast member to host the season of Saturday Night Live. (He is also the 33rd longtime former cast member returned to SNL to host for the first time in this season), and it's the fourth time a former SNL cast member has hosted a season finale, the others being Dan Aykroyd, Will Ferrell and Andy Samberg.
