The season finale of Season 39 and 766th episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by longtime former cast member Andy Samberg, star of the FOX/NBC's police procedural comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, with musical guest St. Vincent, who performed "Digital Witness" and "Birth in Reverse". It premiered on May 17, 2014. This was St. Vincent's first time as the musical guest on SNL and the first-time hosting for Andy Samberg.
Multiple celebrities guests and longtime former cast-members made cameos in this episode:
- Longtime former cast member Maya Rudolph appears as Beyoncé Knowles in the "A Message from Solange & Jay-Z" cold open, the "Vogelchecks" sketch, and as Oprah Winfrey in the second SNL Digital Short.
- Longtime former cast-members Seth Meyers and Bill Hader and former short-time Ebersol-era cast member (and former SCTV) cast member Martin Short appeared in the opening monologue. Additionally, Hader appeared in the "Vogelchecks" sketch.
- Lil Jon appeared in the first SNL Digital Short.
- Paul Rudd appeared on Weekend Update and the "Vogelchecks" sketch.
- Another longtime former cast members Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen appeared in the "Vogelchecks" sketch. Additionally, Wiig appeared in the "Bvlgari Watch" sketch.
- Tatiana Maslany, Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone, and Pharrell Williams all appeared in the second SNL Digital Short.
- 2 Chainz appeared in the "Blizzard Man" sketch.
This marked the final episode for longtime cast member Nasim Pedrad (a cast member since 2009), as she left the show after five years. This would be also the final episode for first-year featured players John Milhiser, Noël Wells, Brooks Wheelan, and Mike O'Brien, as four of them were let go from SNL, after only one season. O’Brien stayed on as a writer for a few more years.
This is also marked the final episode for Cecily Strong as a Weekend Update anchor, who returned to the cast for the next season, as she was replaced by Michael Che on the following episode for the season premiere.
This also even marked the final episode for longtime announcer Don Pardo, who would die on August 18, 2014. Pardo had announced every episode for the first 39 seasons of SNL, except the entirety of Season 7.

- This is also marked the final episode for longtime writers/writing supervisors Marika Sawyer and John Solomon (both of whom had been writers for the show overall since 2006), as they both left the show after eight years.
- Sawyer had been a writing supervisor for the last two seasons, while Solomon was only promoted to that role at the start of this season.
- This is also even the final episode where the Season 38-39 montage is used and the SNL Logo into big bubble letters.
