The 886th episode and 15th episode of Saturday Night Live's 45th season premiered on March 7, 2020, hosted by English actor Daniel Craig, star of the James Bond franchise and the 2021 hit action film No Time To Die, Knives Out, and the sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, as well as the hit films Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Defiance, Logan Lucky, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, with musical guest The Weeknd, a Canadian singer and songwriter. This is Daniel Craig's 2nd hosting stint and his first appearance in 8 years, 5 months, and 1 day. He last hosted SNL back on the October 6, 2012 episode, the third episode of SNL's 38th season, with musical guest Muse, an legendary English rock band.
This is also The Weekend's 3rd musical guest appearance on SNL and his 5th appearance on SNL in total.
The Weeknd previously made his 2nd musical guest appearances on SNL on the following dates: On October 10, 2015, the second episode of SNL's 41st season, hosted by stand-up comedian and actress Amy Schumer and on October 1, 2016, the Season 42 premiere, hosted by Australian actress Margot Robbie; which coincidentally, was the first episode for current cast members Mikey Day, Alex Moffat and Melissa VillaseƱor.
This is the last episode of season 45 to be produced in-studio. On March 28, 2020, production was supposed to resume with host John Krasinski and musical guest Dua Lipa. But, on March 16, 2020, the season shut down production due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and production resumed at the cast members' homes on April 11, 2020 (now titled "Saturday Night Live At Home"), hosted by the actor Tom Hanks, with musical guest Chris Martin, the lead vocalist of legendary British pop rock band Coldplay and concluded on May 9, 2020, hosted by longtime former cast member Kristen Wiig, with musical guest Boyz II Men featuring Babyface.
The next episode to be produced in studio would be the Season 46 premiere episode on October 3, 2020 will return to Studio 8H, hosted by former cast member Chris Rock, with musical guest Megan Thee Stallion.
This would be also the final episode until the Season 48 premiere on October 1, 2022 (hosted by actor Miles Teller with musical guest Kendrick Lamar), to not feature the cast, crew, hosts, musical guests, the SNL Band, and the audience members are wearing the masks, in the opening monologue and the goodnights.

- This marked the return of The Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started A Conversation With At A Party, as well as her 11th and final appearance.
- This was also very likely marked the final episode for longtime music producer Hal Willner (who had been with the show since 1980). The very next month, Willner died on April 7, 2020, from COVID-19 complications at age 64. At the time of his death, Willner had worked at SNL for 40 years, and as tribute was paid to him during the first SNL at Home episode on April 11, 2020.
