The 923rd episode and 14th episode of Saturday Night Live's 47th season premiered on March 5, 2022. It was hosted by actor Oscar Isaac, star of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and Disney+ Marvel Cinematic Universe's miniseries Moon Knight, as well as the hit films A Most Violent Year, Triple Frontier, Annihilation, Big Gold Brick, and Dune, with musical guest Charli XCX, an English singer and songwriter, who performed "Beg for You" and "Baby" and appears in the pre-recorded "Meatballs" sketch. This was the 2nd appearance, as well as the first-time hosting for Oscar Isaac.
Charli XCX was scheduled to returned as the musical guest for her 2nd appearance and perform "Good Ones" and "New Shapes" on December 18, 2021, the ninth episode and the Christmas show of the season, hosted by actor Paul Rudd, but her appearance was canceled due to COVID-19 cases rising in New York City. Christine and the Queens and Caroline Polachek were also planned to perform the latter song with her.
Charli XCX also previously made her musical guest debut was on December 13, 2014, the ninth and Holidays-themed episode of SNL's 40th season, hosted by the English actor Martin Freeman. This is also her 3rd appearance and her 2nd time as the musical guest on SNL.
