The 904th episode and 15th episode of Saturday Night Live's 46th season premiered on March 27, 2021, hosted by longtime former cast member Maya Rudolph, star and executive producer of the Apple TV+'s hit comedy series Loot, the hit films Grown Ups and the sequel Grown Ups 2, Bridesmaids, Inherent Vice, Sisters, Life of the Party, and Disney's live-action/animated musical fantasy comedy film Disenchanted and the animated films Shrek the Third, Big Hero 6, The Nut Job and the sequel The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature, The Angry Birds Movie, the sequel The Angry Birds Movie 2, The Emoji Movie, The Willoughbys, Luca, Nickelodeon Movies film Teenage Mutant Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and IF, with rapper and singer Jack Harlow as the musical guest, who performed a medley of "Tyler Herro" and "What's Poppin" for his first set and "Same Guy" with Adam Levine of Maroon 5 for his second set. He also appears in the pre-recorded "NFTs" skit.

This is Maya Rudolph's 2nd hosting stint, and her first appearance in 9 years, 1 month, and 9 days. This is also Jack Harlow's musical guest debut on SNL.

  • Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live) just won her second Emmy in Best Comedy Guest Actress thanks in part to her viral impression of Vice President Kamala Harris. Rudolph became the first person in 20 years to repeat in the category.

  • With this episode, Maya Rudolph becomes the second African-American female to come back to host SNL for the second time, after Queen Latifah, as well as the only African-American longtime former female cast member returned to SNL to host.
  • Rudolph also reprising her impression as Beyoncé Knowles in the "Hot Ones" sketch and Vice President Kamala Harris in the "A Kamala Harris Unity Seder" skit.
  • At the end of "The Maya-ing" pre-recorded sketch with Maya being integrated into the original cast photo. Interestingly, this is the second time she would be superimposed into an original cast photo. She appears in a similar, cute photo bumper from her first hosting gig.
  • Maya Rudolph becomes the 17th person in SNL history whose 2nd appearance as host occurred 9+ years after their 1st and she also becomes a second-time SNL host.
  • Dave Chappelle, Jason Bateman and Maya Rudolph all become second-time SNL hosts this season.
