The sixteenth episode of Season 24 and the 462nd episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on March 20, 1999. It was hosted by actress Drew Barrymore, star of the hit films, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Far From Home, Firestarter, Poison Ivy, Boys on the Side, Charlie's Angels and its 2003 sequel Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Duplex, Riding in Cars with Boys, Fever Pitch, Lucky You, Big Miracle, Miss You Already, Mad Love, Batman Forever, Ever After, The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, Music and Lyrics, Gling the Distance, Blended and Curious George and the host of first-run syndicated American talk show The Drew Barrymore Show. The musical guest was Garbage, a rock band.
This is Drew Barrymore's 2nd time as host and her first appearance in 16 years and 4 months (she previously hosted SNL back on the November 20, 1982 episode), the seventh episode of SNL's 8th season, at the age of 7 years old, making her the youngest person to host SNL with the musical guests being Squeeze, an English rock band.
This is also the only musical guest appearance on SNL for Garbage.
