The 15th episode of Season 16 and the 301st episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on March 16, 1991, hosted by actor Michael J. Fox, star of the hit NBC comedy series Family Ties and Back to the Future film trilogy, as well as the hit films Teen Wolf, Light of Day, The Secret of My Success, Casualties of War, The Hard Way, Doc Hollywood, Life with Mikey, Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey and the sequel Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco, Greedy, The American President, For Love or Money, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, The Frighteners and Stuart Little films, with musical guest The Black Crowes, a rock band.

This was Michael J. Fox's only time hosting and the musical guest debut on SNL for The Black Crowes.

This is the final episode for longtime cast member A. Whitney Brown (a featured player since 1986), after five years in the cast, but he officially stayed on the writing staff until the end of the season.
