The 17th episode of Season 37 and the 719th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on March 10, 2012, hosted by actor Jonah Hill, star of the hit films 21 Jump Street and its 2014 sequel 22 Jump Street, Knocked Up, This Is the End, You People and Superbad, with the musical guest being The Shins, an indie rock band, who performed "Simple Song" and "It's Only Life." This is Jonah Hill's 2nd time as the host, and the 2nd musical guest appearance for The Shins on SNL.

Jonah Hill's goodnights speech is "I would like to thank The Shins! I would like to thank Mr. Tom Hanks! I would like to thank “SNL”, Lorne Michaels, the cast, the writers, the crew! I would like to thank my parents, my friends up there, and I would like to thank Steven, We Love You." (Cheers and applause)
