"Give me a break! That's a bunch of malarkey!"
— One of Joe Biden's most well-known sayings

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. (/ˈbaɪdən/ BY-dən; born November 20, 1942) is an American politician who is the 46th president of the United States, serving since January 20, 2021. He was the 47th Vice President of the United States, jointly elected with President Barack Obama. He was also a United States Senator from Delaware from January 3, 1973 until his resignation on January 15, 2009, following his election to the Vice Presidency. He made a pre-taped cameo on Saturday Night Live on January 21, 2023, during his first term as president.

Biden was born on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Catherine Finnegan and a father whom was also named Joe Biden. He is of mostly Irish ancestry. He graduated from the University of Delaware in 1965, and later went to Syracuse University to law school. As a young man, he worked as a lifeguard. He was elected US Senator from Delaware in 1972, and was the youngest Senator at the time. Tragically, he lost his first wife and infant daughter in a car crash later that year. His other children, Beau and Hunter, survived and were treated at the hospital, where Biden was also first sworn in as Senator. He married Jill Jacobs in 1977.

Biden famously commuted to Washington D.C. via Amtrak, during his tenure as a Senator.

Biden first ran for President in 1988, but dropped out early in the race, eventually giving the Democratic nomination to Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis, who in turn lost to Vice President George H. W. Bush. He later ran for President again in 2008, again losing the Democratic nomination, but was elected as Vice President as Barack Obama's running mate. Biden served alongside Obama from 2009 to 2017.

Biden ran for President a third time in 2020, winning the Democratic nomination and defeating incumbent President Donald Trump in the general election.

Actors[]

He was first impersonated by Kevin Nealon on November 12, 1991 during the "Clarence Thomas Hearings" sketch. This was followed by by Jason Sudeikis, Woody Harrelson, and John Mulaney. (for dates, see infobox).

Jim Carrey portrayed him in season 46 starting on October 3, 2020, a month prior to the election where he opposes Donald Trump seeking a second term, after having announced Kamala Harris as his running mate. On December 19, 2020, it was announced that Carrey would no longer portray Biden, and he was replaced by Alex Moffat in that night's episode. However, starting on October 2, 2021, he is now played by James Austin Johnson, who has impersonated him ever since. On the October 23, 2021 episode, in the "Ghosts of Biden Past" sketch, he was impersonated by Jason Sudeikis, James Austin Johnson, and Alex Moffat at the same time during the cold open, Sudeikis and Moffat previously having played Biden.

On the October 28, 2023 episode, Biden was played by Mikey Day.

Presidency[]

Biden campaigned on returning to normalcy and pulling out of Afghanistan, similar to Warren G. Harding 100 years prior. He is the oldest President in American history, aged 78 when he was sworn in (older than Ronald Reagan was when he left office). He is also the first President to have a female and African-American Vice President, first to be from Delaware, and second to be Roman Catholic after John F. Kennedy.

In August 2021, Biden officially removed all troops from Afghanistan; however, the Taliban, a group of terrorists, took over the country as Biden was removing troops. Biden faced criticism for pulling out too early.

In November 2021, Biden signed the Build Back Better bill, which promised more money to expand infrastructure.
