The 11th episode of Season 35 and the 669th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on January 9, 2010, hosted by former longtime NBA basketball player Charles Barkley with musical guest Alicia Keys, who performed "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart" and "Empire State of Mind". This is Charles Barkley’s 2nd time as host and his first appearance for the first time in 16 years, 3 months and 5 days, while Alicia Keys made her 2nd musical guest appearance on SNL.

He last hosted SNL back on September 25, 1993, the Season 19 premiere, with musical guest Nirvana, a rock band.

Alicia Keys previously made her musical guest debut on September 29, 2001, the season premiere of Season 27, with actress Reese Witherspoon as the host, which coincidentally, was the first episode for longtime cast member and Weekend Update anchor Seth Meyers.

Charles Barkley's goodnights speech is the following: "Hey I want to Give a Special Thanks to Ms. Alicia Keys! It's Been a Great Week with You Guys. Thank y'all for coming, and thanks again". (Cheers and Applause)
