The 899th episode and 10th episode of Saturday Night Live's 46th season, hosted by actor and filmmaker John Krasinski, star of the NBC's hit classic sitcom The Office, and Amazon's thriller series Jack Ryan, and the hit films A Quiet Place, Something Borrowed, Aloha, and The Hollars and the hit animated films, Disney-Pixar's Monsters University, Next Gen, and DC League of Super-Pets and also written, produced and directed and also star in the Paramount's live-action/animated fantasy comedy film IF, with musical guest Machine Gun Kelly, who performed "my ex's best friend" and "Lonely". It premiered on January 30, 2021.

Krasinski was originally supposed to host on the March 28, 2020 episode of SNL's 45th season, with musical guest Dua Lipa, but it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

This was John Krasinski's hosting debut, thus making him the fourth former cast member from The Office to host, as well as the second cast member from A Quiet Place to host. Machine Gun Kelly made his musical guest debut on SNL.

This is the first new episode of SNL since the raid on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, just two weeks before the inauguration.

This will be the first of five consecutive shows, the first time this happened in this season on the show.

This is also marked the first new episode of SNL since the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th U.S. President, who was inaugurated 10 days prior on January 20.

This episode also even marked the return of Aidy Bryant, who had missed the first half of the season, minus the first and third episodes, due to filming the third and final season of Shrill.

John Krasinski's goodnights speech is "Thank You to Machine Gun Kelly and to This Incredible Cast and Crew of This Show, This Is Major Dream Stuff, Thank You So Much, Thank You". (Cheers and applause)
