The 979th episode and 11th episode of Saturday Night Live's 50th season premiered on January 18, 2025, hosted by stand-up comedian and actor Dave Chappelle, star of the hit film Half Baked, Netflix's stand-up comedy special Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer and the hit comedy series, Chappelle's Show, with rapper GloRilla as the musical guest. This is Dave Chappelle's 4th time hosting and GloRilla made her musical guest debut on SNL.
Chappelle previously hosted SNL after the U.S. Presidential elections on the following dates: On November 12, 2016, the sixth episode and the eleventh post-U.S. Presidential Election episode of SNL's 42nd season, with musical guests A Tribe Called Quest, a hip hop group, on November 7, 2020, the sixth episode of SNL's 46th season, as well as the twelfth post-U.S. Presidential Election episode, with musical guests Foo Fighters, the legendary rock band, and November 12, 2022, the sixth episode of SNL's 48th season, with hip hop duo Black Star as the musical guest; this was the first episode broadcast after the 2022 U.S. Midterm Elections, making this the third time Chappelle hosted SNL after an U.S. election.
This also making this first and only time Chappelle hosted SNL for the first show to kicking off a New Year, instead of the post-U.S. Presidential Election episode.
Chappelle's long goodnights speech is "My Thanks to GloRilla, the Cast and Crew of Saturday Night Live, Lorne Michaels, 50 Years Strong, Comedy is for Life, Let's Go, Thank You Very Much Everybody, Be Safe, Good Night". (Cheers and applause)
