The 919th episode and 10th episode of Saturday Night Live's 47th season premiered on January 15, 2022, hosted by actress, dancer and singer Ariana DeBose, star of the one of the original ensemble members in Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical Hamilton, the Apple TV+ musical comedy series Schmigadoon! and the hit musical films, The Prom and West Side Story, with musical guests Bleachers. Rapper Roddy Ricch was originally announced as the musical guest, but he had to drop out, due to COVID-19 concerns. DeBose became the second member of the Hamilton cast and the 200th woman to host Saturday Night Live, and the first since the Broadway hit’s creator Lin-Manuel Miranda hosted the show back on the October 8, 2016 episode, the second episode of SNL's 42nd season, with musical guests Twenty One Pilots. This will be Ariana DeBose's hosting debut and Jack Antonoff made his 2nd musical guest appearance on SNL, as well as the musical guest debut on SNL for Bleachers.
Cecily Strong would be absent for the next three episodes, starting with this one, due to starring in her Broadway play, The Search for Signs of Inteligent Life in the Universe. Making this the second-consecutive season where she missed episodes of a season to appear in another project (after missing practically the first half of the previous season due to filming Schmigadoon!).
Aidy Bryant is also absent for this episode, making this the second-consecutive season where she missed episodes of a season (after missing particularly the first half of the previous season, minus the first and third episodes, due to filming Shrill).
