The 819th episode and 11th episode of Saturday Night Live's 42nd season premiered on January 14, 2017. It was hosted by the British actress Felicity Jones, star of the hit films, Like Crazy, A Monster Calls, Collide, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, On the Basis of Sex, The Theory of Everything, The Aeronauts, Inferno, and The Midnight Sky, with country music singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson as the musical guest, who performed "Keep It Between the Lines" and "Call to Arms". Felicity Jones’ hosting debut was made and this was also the musical guest debut on SNL for Sturgill Simpson.

Felicity Jones' goodnights speech is "Thank You to Sturgill Simpson, (Cheers and Applause), Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, and thank you to the phenomenal, wonderful and Exquisite Cast and Crew at SNL".
