The tenth episode of Season 23 and the 436th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on January 10, 1998, hosted by the legendary actor Samuel L. Jackson with musical guest Ben Folds Five, an alternative rock trio. This is the only musical guest appearance for Ben Folds Five, as well as the only hosting stint on SNL for Samuel L. Jackson.

This is Colin Quinn's first episode as Weekend Update anchor.
