The 14th episode of Season 40 and the 780th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on February 28, 2015, hosted by actress Dakota Johnson, star of the Fifty Shades film series, as well as the hit films A Bigger Splash, How to Be Single, Suspiria, Bad Times at the El Royale, The Peanut Butter Falcon, Our Friend, The High Note, The Lost Daughter, Am I OK?, and Cha Cha Real Smooth, with musical guest Alabama Shakes, a rock band. This was Dakota Johnson's hosting debut, and the 2nd and last musical guest appearance on SNL for Alabama Shakes.

Dakota Johnson's goodnights speech is: "This Had Been the Most Excited Night of My Life, Thank You Lorne and This Incredible Cast for Having Me, Thank You to Alabama Shakes, Thank You Guys for Coming".
