The 884th episode and 13th episode of Saturday Night Live's 45th season premiered on February 8, 2020, hosted by drag queen RuPaul, star and the host of VH1's RuPaul's Drag Race, with musical guest Justin Bieber, a Candian singer. This is RuPaul's first appearance in 26 years, as well as RuPaul’s first-time hosting.

The last time Justin Bieber was served as both the host and musical guest was on the February 9, 2013 episode, the thirteenth episode of SNL's 38th season. This is also his 3rd musical guest appearance and his first appearance in 7 years and over a decade on SNL.

The goodnights speech for RuPaul is "Thanks to Justin Bieber, Quavo, Jason Sudeikis, Uh to Larry David, Rachel Dratch. And Remember, If You Can't Love Yourself, Honey, How You Gonna Love Somebody?". (Cheers and applause)

With guests, Chloe Fineman (in very her first appearance on Weekend Update on the show) stops by the Update desk to discuss and show impressions of her favorite Oscar-worthy performances of the year and Che's neighbor Cathy Ann (Cecily Strong) weighs in on President Trump’s acquittal from the impeachment trial.
Return of Thirsty Cops   Two thirsty cops (RuPaul, Ego Nwodim) make their move on a civilian (Pete Davidson) during a traffic stop. With Kate McKinnon
Old New York Show   Madge and Dickie (Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant) host a talk show from their hotel room called The Old New York Show with special guest Mr. Tarry Teats (RuPaul).
Justin Bieber performed "Intentions". Bieber is joined by Quavo of Migos.
Goodbyes and Closing Credits   RuPaul thanked Justin Bieber, Quavo, Jason Sudeikis, Larry David and Rachel Dratch. He reminds everyone to love themselves, they can love some back. Also in the goodbyes, Mikey Day, Chris Redd and Ego Nwodim point to Chloe Fineman, as this is her Weekend Update debut in this episode. Only appearance by Melissa Villaseñor.

Trivia[]

  • RuPaul became the first drag queen to host SNL. This was also his first appearance on the show since 1993 during the September 25, 1993, which is the Season 19 premiere, hosted by longtime former NBA basketball player Charles Barkley, with musical guest Nirvana, when he cameoed (in drag) on the game show sketch, "What's That?", where contestants try to identify the genders of androgynous people.
  • Melissa Villaseñor did not appear in this episode, however she is credited in the opening montage and appear only in goodbyes.
  • There is even no additional sketch before the goodnights.
  • This episode premiered on Cecily Strong's 36th birthday.
