The 942nd episode and 12th episode of Saturday Night Live's 48th season premiered on February 4, 2023. It was hosted by Chilean-American actor and comedian Pedro Pascal, star of the Netflix crime series Narcos, Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian and the spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett and the HBO's. post-apocalyptic drama series The Last of Us, and the hit films Bloodsucking Bastards, The Great Wall, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, The Equalizer 2, Prospect, If Beale Street Could Talk, Triple Frontier, Wonder Woman 1984, We Can Be Heroes, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and The Bubble, with the legendary British pop rock band Coldplay as the musical guest. This was Pedro Pascal's hosting debut, while Coldplay made their 7th musical guest appearance on SNL.

The last time Coldplay were the musical guests was on November 2, 2019, the fifth episode of SNL's 45th season, hosted by the actress Kristen Stewart. An honorable mention, bandleader Chris Martin served as the musical guest for the first SNL at Home episode on April 11, 2020, the sixteenth episode later in that season, hosted by actor Tom Hanks.

Waking Up   A hospital patient (Pedro Pascal) wakes up confused after a long coma. With Heidi Gardner as the patient's wife, Kenan Thompson as his friend, Sarah Sherman as his sister and Bowen Yang as the doctor Dr. Jin.

With guests, Groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil (Michael Longfellow), to discuss seeing his shadow and predicting six more weeks of winter and British rappers, Milly Pounds and Shirty (James Austin Johnson, Devon Walker), to discuss King Charles III's coronation and the new era of the British monarchy.
Protective Mom   A man named Luis (Marcello Hernández) introduces his girlfriend (Chloe Fineman) to his overprotective mom (Pedro Pascal).
Italian Waiters   Things go off the rails at diner when waiters at an Italian restaurant when the head waiter (Pedro Pascal) give their guests (Heidi Gardner, Punkie Johnson, Chloe Fineman, Ego Nwodim, and Sarah Sherman) compliments. With Kenan Thompson as Dino the chef, Mikey Day and Marcello Hernandez as the waiters.
Coldplay performed a medley of "Human Heart" and "Fix You", once again with Jacob Collier and the Jason Max Ferdinand Singers.
Lisa from Temecula   Lisa from Temecula (Ego Nwodim) disrupts her sister's (Punkie Johnson) birthday dinner. With Pedro Pascal as Paul, Bowen Yang, Molly Kearney as Shanya's friends, Michael Longfellow as the waiter and Devon Walker as the manager.
Band Shot   The Saturday Night Live Band plays the final music piece during the final commercial break.
Goodbyes and Closing Credits   Pedro Pascal thanked Coldplay, Jacob Collier and the Jason Max Ferdinand Singers, Sarah Paulson, the cast that such taking care of him, Lorne Michaels and his family and everyone for being here tonight, the best night of his life. Only appearance of Andrew Dismukes.

  • Starting with this episode, writers Gary Richardson (who had been with the show as a writer since 2017, with the exception of Season 47), Will Stephen (a writer since 2015), and Celeste Yim (who joined the show's writing staff back in 2020), are the show's writing supervisors.
  • This was likely the last episode for longtime production designer Eugene Lee, who passed away two days after this episode premiered, at the age of 83. He had worked on the show since the show's premiere in 1975, only missing seasons 6-10 (1980-1985).
  • Pedro Pascal joined the group of alternative names that have hosted SNL.
  • The "Fancam Assembly" sketch features the song "Big Boys from this season's Keke Palmer episode.
