The 922nd episode and 13th episode of Saturday Night Live's 47th season premiered on February 26, 2022, hosted by former SNL writer, writing supervisor and producer, stand-up comedian, and actor John Mulaney, with musical guests LCD Soundsystem, an indie rock band, who performed "Thrills" and "Yr City's a Sucker" and appears in the "Subway Churro" sketch. Mulaney return to hosted SNL for the fifth time, and he entered to become the newest member of the Five-Timers Club. This is John Mulaney's 5th time as the host, thus making him a five-time host and the only former SNL writer to enter The Five-Timers Club, beating out Larry David thrice, while LCD Soundsystem made their 2nd musical guest appearance on SNL.
Mulaney previously hosted SNL 4 times on the following dates: On April 14, 2018, the eighteenth episode of SNL's 43rd season, with musical guest Jack White, on March 2, 2019, the fourteenth episode of SNL's 44th season, with musical guest Thomas Rhett, a country singer-songwriter, on February 29, 2020, the fourteenth episode of SNL's 45th season, with musical guest David Byrne and the first time SNL has premiered on Leap Day, and on October 31, 2020, the fifth episode and Halloween show of SNL's 46th season, with legendary rock band The Strokes as his musical guests.
LCD Soundsystem previously made their musical guest debut on May 6, 2017, the nineteenth episode of SNL's 42nd season, hosted by the actor Chris Pine.
Cecily Strong returned to SNL in this episode, after having been absent from the last three episodes, due to starring in the Broadway play "The Search for Signs of Inteligent Life in the Universe".
Meanwhile, starting with this episode, until May 14, 2022, current cast member Pete Davidson is absent from the show to film his new movie "The Home" (he previously skipped the first two episodes of Season 45 to film his scenes for The Suicide Squad).
