The 12th episode of Season 9 and the 171st episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on February 11, 1984, hosted by actor and comedian Robin Williams, star of the ABC's classic sitcom Mork & Mindy, as well as the comedy and drama films Good Will Hunting, Good Morning, Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, The Fisher King, The World According to Garp, Moscow on the Hudson, Awakenings, Patch Adams, One Hour Photo, and World's Greatest Dad, the family films Hook, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, Jack, Flubber, RV, the Night at the Museum trilogy, Disney's hit animated film Aladdin, and the three of his animated films Robots, Happy Feet, and its 2011 sequel, with musical guest Adam Ant. Stand-up comedian, author, actress, interviewer, and commentator Paula Poundstone made a guest appearance.
This was the first time that Robin Williams hosted, and he made his 2nd appearance, as well as his only appearance in the Ebersol-era. This is also the only musical guest appearance on SNL for Adam Ant.

Saturday Night News with Robin Williams
Robin Williams is this week's guest anchor; Williams fits the news desk a little better than Rickles did, but he's mainly there to set up the remote and commentary and only has a handful of news items to read. Brad Hall appears on Saturday Night News for the first time since losing the anchor chair in a videotaped remote (directed by Claude Kerven), where he interviews Jesse Donnelly (Jim Belushi), the man who personifies the NYC crime statistic of a man mugged every 11 seconds. Despite the thinness of the premise, this was pretty well executed, and I laughed at the little girl mugging him at the end. The subject of Andropov's death brings Tim Kazurinsky back to do his last Salute to Journalism: he is utterly flabbergasted and a little disappointed about the New York Post not giving the news its usual sensationalistic treatment and shows what some of those headlines would have looked like (my favorite: "LENIN GETS ROOMMATE"). This was a strong one to go out on.
