The 8th episode of Season 39 and the 753rd episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on December 7, 2013, hosted by actor Paul Rudd, star of the hit films Dinner for Schmucks, They Came Together, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Fundamentals of Caring, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and The Catcher Was a Spy, and Marvel Studios films Ant-Man and the sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Endgame, and the third film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania with musical guest One Direction, an English-Irish boy band, who performed "Story of My Life" and "Through the Dark," and appeared in the opening monologue and the "Dan Charles" pre-taped sketch. This is Paul Rudd's 3rd time as host, and One Direction made their 2nd musical guest appearance on SNL.
