The 8th episode of Season 37 and the 710th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on December 3, 2011, hosted by actor Steve Buscemi, star of HBO's period crime drama series Boardwalk Empire, Fargo and Monsters University and the musical guest was The Black Keys, a rock duo, who performed "Lonely Boy" and "Gold on the Ceiling". This is Steve Buscemi's 2nd time as host, and his first appearance in 13 years and 8 months. This is also the 2nd musical guest appearance on SNL for The Black Keys.

He last hosted SNL on the April 4, 1998 episode, the seventeenth episode of SNL's 23rd season, with musical guests Third Eye Blind, a rock band.

The Black Keys previously made their musical guest debut on January 8, 2011, the eleventh episode of SNL's 36th season, hosted by actor and comedian Jim Carrey.
