The 836th episode and 7th episode of Season 43 of Saturday Night Live premiered on December 2, 2017, hosted by American-born Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, star of the hit films I Could Never Be Your Woman, Atonement, The Lovely Bones, Hanna, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Brooklyn, Lady Bird, The Seagull, Mary Queen of Scots, Little Women, Ammonite, See How They Run, Foe, The Outburn, Blitz and Bad Apples, with musical guests U2, an legendary Irish rock band, who performed "American Soul" and "Get Out of Your Way". This will be Saoirse Ronan's hosting debut. This is also the 4th musical guest appearance for U2 on SNL.

The last time U2 were the musical guests was on September 26, 2009, the season premiere of Season 35, hosted by actress Megan Fox.
