The 690th episode and 10th episode of Saturday Night Live's 36th season premiered on December 18, 2010, hosted by actor Jeff Bridges, star of the hit films Tron: Legacy, Surf's Up, Arlington Road, Starman, The Contender, True Grit, Fabulous Baker Boys, The Fisher King, The Big Lebowski, Hell or High Water and Tron, with rappers Eminem and Lil Wayne as the musical guests. This is Jeff Bridges' 2nd time as host, and he made his much-anticipated return after 27 years, 3 months, and 22 days. He last hosted SNL back on the February 26, 1983 episode, with his elder brother and fellow actor Beau Bridges, the fourteenth episode of SNL's 8th season, with musical guest Randy Newman.

This is also the fifth and second musical guest stints for Eminem and Lil Wayne, respectively, thus making him the former a five-time musical guest on SNL.

Jeff Bridges' goodnights speech is the following: "Thanks to Eminem, Lil Wayne, Cookie Monster! Rest in Peace, Captain Beefheart! Happy Birthday, Brandon! Here comes a great day! Lorne and the “Saturday Night Live” crew and cast, thanks for making" — [cut off]
