The 9th episode of Season 27 and the 514th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on December 15, 2001, hosted by comedian, television host, actress, writer, and producer Ellen DeGeneres, star of the ABC and CBS classic sitcoms Ellen and The Ellen Show, and the host of the longest-running syndicated television talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, with musical guest No Doubt, a rock band.

This will be the only hosting stint for Ellen DeGeneres and the 2nd and final musical guest appearance for No Doubt, as well as Gwen Stefani's 2nd musical guest stint on SNL.
