The 754th episode and 9th episode of Season 39 of Saturday Night Live premiered on December 14, 2013, hosted by actor John Goodman, making his first appearance in 12 years. Kings of Leon, a legendary rock band, who performed "Temple" and "Wait for Me", are the musical guests and appeared in the pre-recorded "Guy Fieri's Full Throttle Holiday Special" sketch.

This is the 3rd musical guest stint on SNL for the Kings of Leon and the 13th time as the host on SNL for John Goodman.

Goodman last hosted SNL on November 3, 2001, the fourth episode of SNL's 27th season, with rapper Ja Rule as the musical guest.

The Kings of Leon previously made their 2nd musical guest stints on SNL on the following dates: On September 20, 2008, the second episode of SNL's 34th season, hosted by actor James Franco, and on October 23, 2010, the fourth episode of SNL's 36th season, hosted by actress Emma Stone.
